Warners thought Fonda too old plus he hadn't made a movie in 6 years. I'm not really a fan of Henry Fo...great review. I'm not really a fan of Henry Fonda in this movie. Not only is he too old, he lacks any drive or energy. Supposedly, he disliked Ford taking liberties with the play, including making it more comedic. If true, Ford was on the right track. BTW, I'm not really sure why Fonda got a AA nomination, other than "Hey, welcome back!"
