Ghost Ship (1952)

A young couple (Hazel Court, Dermot Walsh) decide to buy a yacht and use it as their home. This despite the shipyard manager's (Joss Ambler) warnings that the yacht has a bad reputation of being haunted. However, soon after purchasing and renovating the boat, mysterious things being to happen. Based on an obscure French play L'ANGOISSE by Pierre Mills and Celia De Vilyars and directed by Vernon Sewell. (CURSE OF THE CRIMSON ALTAR). Despite the word ghost in the title, this is a relatively mundane entry into the horror genre. In fact, I hesitate to even call it a horror film at all because not only are there no frights or suspense but not even any mood or atmosphere. It's more like a psychic detective story and even on that level, it's fairly routine. The lovely Hazel Court manages to bring some spark to the wife but Walsh is a pretty monotonous leading man. With Joss Ackland and Patricia Owens.
