Up In The Air (2009)

With a job that keeps him constantly traveling and living in airports, a man (George Clooney) loves his traveling existence without commitment to anyone. But when he meets an independent woman (Vera Farmiga) that shares his views, he slowly comes to terms with the emptiness in his life. Based on the novel by Walter Kirn and directed by Jason Reitman (JUNO). I have to confess that I'm not a big fan of Jason Reitman’s films and usually avoid them. But this is one terrific film. Reitman's and Sheldon Turner’s screenplay is full of witty and on target dialogue yet still the way real people talk, not movie characters talk. Clooney gives a superlative performance and is he the last real male Movie Star? He holds the camera as effortlessly as Gable and Cary Grant and is a better actor to boot. He is supported by two actresses whose performances are pure gold, Farmiga and Anna Kendrick. As Clooney's female equivalent (though the movie saves a real kicker for the film's final moments), Farmiga really shines here. All three leads received Oscar nominations for their work here. Probably as close to perfection as it could have been.  With Jason Bateman, Melanie Lynskey, J.K. Simmons, Sam Ellliott and Tamala Jones.
