Mysterious Mr. Moto (1938)

After orchestrating a daring escape from the infamous Devil's Island, an undercover Japanese detective (Peter Lorre) flees with his cellmate (Leon Ames) to London. Determined to discover his companion's gang of assassins and discover its leader, he must use all of his wits and disguises. Based on the character created by John P. Marquand (STOPOVER TOKYO) and directed by Norman Foster (KISS THE BLOOD OFF MY HANDS). The fifth entry in 20th Century Fox's eight film Mr. Moto franchise. As a mystery fan, I've enjoyed the Mr. Moto series but this is one of the lesser ones. There's plenty of action and intrigue but it's mystery is too obvious. I figured out the criminal mastermind way before the film's finale. With Henry Wilcoxon, Erik Rhodes, Mary Maguire, Harold Huber and Lotus Long (credited here as Karen Sorrell).
