A buffalo hunter (Marlon Brando) returns to his Mexican roots only to have his beloved appaloosa horse stolen by a bandit (John Saxon). Based on the novel by Robert MacLeod and directed by Sidney J. Furie (LADY SINGS THE BLUES). In her review of the movie, Pauline Kael called this film "a dog of a movie about a horse". Is it really that bad? Well ..... yes, it is. It all just seems so pointless. Everyone's acting is just awful with John Saxon and his embarrassing Frito bandito accent being the worst. Normally, Brando is almost always watchable even when he's in a bad movie (like THE MISSOURI BREAKS) but he stinks here! While Russell Metty's (WRITTEN ON THE WIND) Techniscope cinematography is the best thing about the movie, director Furie seems to have a bizarre passion for close ups of lips and teeth! With Anjanette Comer, Emilio Fernandez, Frank Silvera, Rafael Campos and Miriam Colon.
