Hatsukoi (aka First Love) (2019)

A young boxer (Masataka Kubota) who has been diagnosed with a terminal brain tumor saves a drug addicted prostitute (Sakurako Konishi) being chased by a corrupt cop (Nao Omori). And that's only the beginning of a nightmarish long night's journey into dawn as a drug deal gone horribly wrong results in crosses and double crosses and a blood bath. Directed by Takashi Miike, this frenetic action packed film is laced with generous doses of black humor. The film itself is incredibly violent yet you'll find yourself chuckling at the absurdity of it all and that is clearly the director's intent. The film moves at a rollercoaster's pace and it's often difficult to keep tabs on who's who and who's screwing who over!  But as much as I reveled in it,  Miike lets the joke go on too long until it's not funny anymore. With Shota Sometani,  Becky,  Seiyo Uchino and Jun Murakami.
