After the critics tear apart his 1993 fashion collection, this documentary follows the designer Isaac Mizrahi for the next year in as he prepares for the 1994 fashion season and his new collection. Directed by Mizrahi's then boyfriend Douglas Keeve (reportedly the final product caused their split), this is an engrossing fun look at the world of high fashion and at one of its more eccentric denizens. The top models of the day like Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss, Linda Evangelista (who charmingly hogs the camera) and Carla Bruni are featured on Mizrahi's runway show. Alas, some of the freshness it exhibited on its 1995 release has had some of the edge taken off it by the proliferation of fashion reality TV shows like
AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL,
PROJECT RUNWAY etc. But it remains an energetic and caustic love letter to the fashion industry. Among the celebrities popping up in the film: Liza Minnelli, Richard Gere, Ellen Barkin, Eartha Kitt, Kyle MacLachlan, Roseanne Barr and Sandra Bernhard.
