I Giganti Della Tesssaglia (aka The Giants Of Thessaly) (1960)
While Jason (Roland Carey) is off to the far ends of the Earth to find the legendary Golden Fleece, the regent (Alberto Farnese) in charge of Thessaly in his absence makes his own plans to take over the country and Jason's wife (Ziva Rodann) in the bargain. Directed by Riccardo Freda (THE HORRIBLE DR. HICHCOCK), this slice of peplum is a pastiche of the Jason myth (without Medea) and bits of Homer's ODYSSEY as well as other Greek myths and characters like Orpheus (Massimo Girotti) sans Eurydice. As far as sword and sandal movies go, this is one is a bit of a mess. The English language dubbing is awful, the special effects are sub par (the film's "monster" looks like a monkey having a hissy fit) and the plot is inconsistent and incoherent. To be fair, the transfer I saw was pretty beat up but I seriously doubt a pristine print would have made it a better movie though it would have made it a more pleasant viewing experience. With Luciano Marin and Nadia Sanders.
