The Naked Gun (2025)

An LAPD detective (Liam Neeson) assumes a software engineer's death is a suicide. But when his sister (Pamela Anderson) insists it was homicide, he investigates further into the case. Directed by Akiva Schaffer (MACGRUBER). This reboot of THE NAKED GUN franchise received positive reviews and did well at the box office but I was underwhelmed. I'll grant you that there were some laugh out loud moments but they were few and far between. The film's biggest problem is Liam Neeson. He's an excellent actor and a far better actor than Leslie Nielsen ever was but ..... Neeson is no Leslie Nielsen. Nielsen's deadpan approach to the part was perfection. The actor in Neeson stops him from the deadpan delivery and we can see Neeson trying to be funny which makes him too obvious and not funny. Nielsen didn't have to try, he just did it straight and that was the secret. Fortunately, Pamela Anderson got the memo and the laughs she elicits are effortless.
