The Bourne Identity (2002)

I’ve come to the Bourne trilogy ass backwards. This is my first visit to the Doug Liman directed thriller while I’ve seen the two sequels already. Nevertheless, it’s a skillful taut thriller though I have a slight preference for the second installment, THE BOURNE SUPREMACY. Jason Bourne (Matt Damon) is picked up floating in the Mediterranean with bullets in his back and his mind a total blank. Slowly, picking up whatever clues to his identity he can, he unravels the mystery of who he is and how he got there. The European locations are handsome, Liman and his editor Saar Klein keep the picture racing along and John Powell provides a pulsating score to accompany the action. Co-starring Clive Owen (wasted), Franka Potente, Chris Cooper, Julia Stiles and Brian Cox.
