Im Stahlnetz Des Dr. Mabuse (aka The Return Of Dr. Mabuse) (1961)

A police inspector (Gert Frobe) is investigating the murder of a courier who had proof linking a Chicago crime syndicate to a European criminal organization. He is assisted by a man (Lex Barker) who is either an FBI agent or a member of the Chicago crime syndicate. Their efforts suggest that the notorious criminal mastermind Dr. Mabuse may behind it but he's been long dead ..... or has he? Directed by Harald Reinl, this was a sequel to Fritz Lang's 1960 THE THOUSAND EYES OF DR. MABUSE (two more sequels would follow). It's a comic book of a movie with sci-fi trimmings, far fetched and rather silly and more dull than fun. It only works if you give the film a huge suspension of belief as there are so many loopholes that you stop counting. The film wasn't even released in the U.S. until 1966, five years after its European release and only then to cash in on Frobe's new found international fame from GOLDFINGER.
