Das Ratsel Der Roten Orchidee (aka Secret Of The Red Orchid) (1962)
Set in London, a Scotland Yard inspector (Adrian Hoven) and an American colleague (Christopher Lee) attempt to break up an extortion ring that is targeting wealthy Brits, who are killed if they refuse to buy "protection". Based on WHEN THE GANGS CAME TO LONDON by the prolific Edgar Wallace and directed by Helmut Ashley. I've not read the Wallace source material but this West German crime movie (with doses of lame humor) has a near incomprehensible plot with a ridiculous execution. All the actors voices are dubbed into English (even those that are or speak English) which has the misfortune of making everyone sound flat and hollow. One of the characters is a butler (Eddi Arent) who has worked for all the murder victims yet Scotland Yard doesn't seem to think it strange and what's even stranger is that he keeps getting hired by the victims even though he is known as the Butler Of Death! It's a mess of a movie. With Klaus Kinski, Marisa Mell, Eric Pohlmann, Pinkas Braun and Christine Nielsen.
