Something To Live For: The Allison Gertz Story (aka Fatal Love) (1992)
Well intentioned drama (based on a true story) about a young woman (Molly Ringwald) diagnosed with AIDS who becomes a motivational speaker to young teens is reduced to just another disease of the week TV movie. Some genuinely strong points are made but for the most part, it’s one of those “inspirational” movies that doesn’t do much beyond becoming a dramatized lecture. Ringwald is very good here given the familiarity of the material and Lee Grant as her mother delivers a strong performance, too. Others in the cast include Martin Landau, Christopher Meloni and Perry King and there’s an above average score by David Shire.
