My Wife's Lodger (1952)

A hapless soldier (Dominic Roche) is hoping for a hero's welcome when he returns home after the war. But while he was away, a shifty eyed black marketeer (Leslie Dwyer) has gotten his arms around the soldier's wife (Olive Stone). Based on the play by Dominic Roche and directed by Maurice Elvey (THE LATE EDWINA BLACK). Ugh! A lame low brow "wink wink" comedy that would seem more comfortable in a British music hall than a cinema. It's so broadly played that I felt I was watching an elongated vaudeville skit rather than a movie. So much for the myth that the Brits have more refined tastes than we Yanks. Of interest only to Diana Dors (who plays Roche's daughter) fans if they wish to see her in an early pre stardom role. Others need not bother. With Alan Sedgwick (just awful!), Vincent Dowling and Vi Kaley.
