The Wizard Of Baghdad (1960)

An incompetent genie (Dick Shwn) tries to straighten out things in old Baghdad by stopping a wicked sultan (John Van Dreelen) who tries to take over the throne and keep the prince (Barry Coe) and princess (Diane Baker) from assuming their rightful places. Directed by George Sherman (COUNT THREE AND PRAY). A clunker of an Arabian nights fantasy film that's strictly for the kiddies but I doubt children of the 21st century would tolerate such stupid drivel. Dick Shawn was okay in small parts like THE PRODUCERS and IT'S A MAD MAD MAD MAD WORLD but in leading roles like here, he's just irritating. A little Shawn goes a long way (especially when he sings). The film held my interest only when Shawn was off screen which unfortunately wasn't very often. This was a Sam Katzman production so you know it's a low budget programmer but it's so sloppy that we can still see the wires that hold up Shawn's flying magic carpet. With Vaughn Taylor, Robert F. Simon, Kim Hamilton and Eve McVeagh.
