Girl From 10th Avenue (1935)

An agreeable programmer about society lawyer (Ian Hunter) who goes on a drunken binge after his fiancée (Katherine Alexander) jilts him for a wealthier man (Colin Clive, BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN). When he wakes up in the morning cold sober, he finds he’s married to common working girl (Bette Davis). It’s the kind of generic fluff that Warners was giving Davis at the time (even after her breakthrough part as Mildred in OF HUMAN BONDAGE), not realizing the acting dynamo they had on their hands. There is one terrific scene however at a posh restaurant when Davis and her wealthy landlady (Alison Skipworth), an ex Floradora girl, get loaded on martinis and Davis confronts Alexander over her husband.
