The First Wives Club (1996)

After the suicide of a college girlfriend (Stockard Channing), three school chums (Goldie Hawn, Diane Keaton, Bette Midler) reunite at the funeral. They find the one thing they have in common is that their husbands have all left them for younger women. They plot a "get even" plan against their exes that snowballs into something more important. Based on the novel by Olivia Goldsmith and directed by Hugh Wilson (POLICE ACADEMY). Some inspired casting headed by three expert comediennes make this contemporary screwball comedy a pleasure to sit through. While the material is fairly well written , what elevates the it above a decent sitcom episode is the crack comedic timing of Midler, Hawn and Keaton and luckily, they have a terrific chemistry and play off each other impeccably. Great fun! The huge cast includes Maggie Smith, Sarah Jessica Parker, Marcia Gay Harden, Eileen Heckart, J.K. Simmons, Stephen Collins, Heather Locklear, Dan Hedaya, James Naughton, Victor Garber, Timothy Olyphant, Rob Reiner, Elizabeth Berkley, Bronson Pinchot, Debra Monk and Philip Bosco.
