Bells Are Ringing (1960)
An answering service employee (Judy Holliday) becomes involved in the personal lives of the services' clients, most specifically a songwriter (Dean Martin) who seems to have lost his touch. Perhaps the last of the Golden Age MGM musicals, this Comden & Green musical is blessed with a bright score, clear cut direction by Vincente Minnelli and most of all, a sensational performance by the great Judy Holliday. Sure it's fluff but when it's this good, who cares? Holliday in her last film role simply glows and if no one else in the cast quite matches her, they're more than adequate. Holliday's last number I'm Going Back is a showstopper. Co-starring Eddie Foy Jr. Jean Stapleton, Frank Gorshin, Fred Clark, Valerie Allen, Nancy Walters and Hal Linden.
