Sex And The City 2 (2010)
Asked to work on an advertising campaign for a luxury hotel in Abu Dhabi, a publicist (Kim Cattrall) invites her three girl pals (Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, Kristin Davis) along for the trip. Directed by Michael Patrick King, it's more of the same but but not as effervescent. I've never actually seen the TV show but I had an enjoyable time at the first film installment and this one begins promisingly then jumps the shark when the picture moves to Morocco and never recovers. SEX AND THE CITY is as much about New York as sex and without the Big Apple, it suffers. One cringes about any unlikely third installment. SEX AND THE CITY MEETS FRANKENSTEIN? SEX AND CITY GOES TO MARS? Still, a few moments pop up that show the old spark like when Nixon and Davis talk about motherhood or Cattrall drops her condom filled purse in the middle of a conservative middle eastern square. But most of the time, we're left with Sarah Jessica Parker whining. In addition to regulars like Chris Noth and Mario Cantone, we get visits from Liza Minnelli, Penelope Cruz, Miley Cyrus and John Corbett.
