War Goddess (aka La Guerriere Dal Seno Nudo) (1973)

The newly crowned Queen of the Amazons (Alena Johnston) is resented by her scheming sister (Sabina Sun) who covets the throne for herself. Directed by Terence Young (WAIT UNTIL DARK), based on a story by Robert Graves ((I CLAUDIUS), cinematography by Aldo Tonti (REFLECTIONS IN A GOLDEN EYE) and a score by Riz Ortolani (THE YELLOW ROLLS ROYCE), one would expect a semblance of pedigree film making but no. After the two bosomy sisters engage in some nude wrestling in order to decide who will be Queen, the victor chastises her fellow Amasons, "Our army has gone to the bitches!" Well, if you didn't already know you were in sword and sandal Euro-trash territory, you did now. The film manages to find wehatever excuse it can for topless Amazons but the unpleasant sexism aside, it's amusingly harmless. Of course, this being made during the pre-feminist era, the Amazons are eventually defeated by the male Greek army and now taken off to be happy housewives. Luciana Paluzzi in briefly gets credited as "guest artist" as well she should be. Compared to the rest of the cast, she may as well be Bette Davis or Meryl Streep. With Angelo Infanti (THE GODFATHER), the only male with an important role.
