Following Her Heart (1994)

A woman (Ann-Margret) is stuck in an unhappy marriage of over 30 years with a domineering, sour faced spouse (William Morgan Sheppard). When he dies suddenly and leaves control of her money in the care of her son in law (Kirk Baltz), she takes a trip to Nashville with a tour group. Directed by the actress Lee Grant, the script is a cliche of musty ridden "follow your dream" sentiment. The sentiment is fine but couldn't they have given us a fresher screenplay? Every overused hackneyed plot device comes into play as regularly as clockwork. Fortunately, the lead role is played by Ann-Margret who generates a lot of goodwill in the part. It's hard to resist her as she slowly throws off the years of repression which had turned her into a submissive frump. George Segal plays the teacher who slowly draws her out of her shell. With Brenda Vaccaro, Travis Tritt and Scott Marlowe.
