The Plunderers (1960)

A western in name only, this tiresome pointless western is essentially THE WILD ONE set in the Old West. A bunch of juvenile delinquents ride into a small town but instead of motorcycles, they ride in on horseback and proceed to take over and terrorize the town. Of course, we all know what's going to happen. Eventually, the cowardly townspeople will rebel and take back their town. It's kind of strange to see Jeff Chandler as a whiny self pitying coward. He only grows balls after Dolores Hart kisses him. John Saxon's stereotypical leering Mexican bandido is cringe inducing but no more so than Hart's ninny. The hoodlums are terrorizing the town but does she lock her doors at night? No! I don't know who should be more offended, women or Mexicans. The film's score is by Leonard Rosenman who also scored REBEL WITHOUT A CAUSE and EAST OF EDEN and the music is suitable for a social drama about juvenile delinquents rather than a western. Co-starring Marsha Hunt, Jay C. Flippen and Ray Stricklyn.
