Ten Thousand Bedrooms (1957)

An American millionaire (Dean Martin) in Rome falls in love with the youngest daughter (Anna Maria Alberghetti) out of four daughters. When he requests her hand in marriage, he's (predictably) told that the three eldest daughters must be married first. You can pretty well write what happens next yourself. Directed by Richard Thorpe, this is a generic piece of glossy 1950s CinemaScope fluff courtesy of MGM. It should be monotonous but surprisingly, it's rather pleasant. This was the first film that Martin made after the break up of the Martin & Lewis comedy team. It's more of a romance with music than a full musical but what songs there are are pretty inferior. Walter Slezak is the father, the other daughters are the wonderful Eva Bartok (THE CRIMSON PIRATE), Lisa Gaye and Lisa Montell. the male suitors for the girls are Dewey Martin, Paul Henreid, Steve Dunne and John Archer. With Dean Jones, Evelyn Varden, Jules Munshin, Monique Van Vooren and Marcel Dalio.
