Shotgun (1955)
A deputy (Sterling Hayden) vows to avenge the murder of the town sheriff, a man who overlooked his outlaw past to redeem him. On his quest through hostile Apache territory to find the killer (Guy Prescott), he unwillingly hooks up with a bounty hunter (Zachary Scott) and an ex-saloon girl (Yvonne De Carlo) on the run. Directed by Lesley Selander, this colorful if minor western was shot in Sedona, Arizona and Ellsworth Fredericks' (SEVEN DAYS IN MAY) Technicolor cinematography takes full advantage of the handsome landscape and Carl Brandt's underscore is easy on the ear. The final showdown between Hayden (who rests on a horse as easily as John Wayne or Joel McCrea) and Prescott generates some solid suspense. With Robert J. Wilke and Angela Greene.
